Roundtable "Adapting to Climate Change: Between Good Practices and Good Policies in Portugal"

On May 18th, 2023, a workshop/Roundtable was held in Lisbon (National Civil Engineering Laboratory) on the theme "Adapting to Climate Change: Between Good Practices and Good Policies in Portugal", introducing the current scenario in the context of Adaptation to Climate Change, as well as the guiding principles of the respective public policies.

On May 18th, 2023, a workshop/Roundtable was held in Lisbon (National Civil Engineering Laboratory) on the theme "Adapting to Climate Change: Between Good Practices and Good Policies in Portugal", introducing the current scenario in the context of Adaptation to Climate Change, as well as the guiding principles of the respective public policies.

The objective of this workshop was the discussion between entities about their position regarding the theme of Climate Change and adaptation measures, aiming at the debate about the limitations of current policies, presenting new ideas and examples of good practices and policies in this area, for future application, across the Portuguese regions. This exchange of ideas allowed each entity to present its position.

Principles that should guide public policies focused on adapting to climate change;

How to implement Climate Change Adaptation Plans?

The limitations of current policies focused on adapting to climate change;

Examples of good practices and good policies in adapting to climate change.

 

APA was represented by Ana Daam and Daniel Vilão, head of unit and technician, respectively, of the Sustainable Finance and Adaptation Division (Climate Change Department).

 

Ana Daam took the floor at the round table, taking the opportunity to underline, in parallel, the importance of the National Roadmap for Adaptation 2100 (RNA2100) as a project of great magnitude in the area of ​​Climate Change in Portugal, and which brings together partners of great weight and recognition in the area. The importance of projects like this one was also underlined in the cohesion of the analysis of this problem and in the importance of an integrated vision of Climate Change, joining efforts between scientific vision and rigor and public and climate policies, for a convergent effort to increase resilience of Portugal, culminating in a joint effort to minimize the effects of Climate Change in a short, medium and long term commitment.
